What is Home Insurance?
Home insurance is insurance policy which protects what’s dear to you, this cover three options based on your needs
1. Buildings insurance,
2. Contents insurance;
3. Building & Contents(Combined)
Buildings cover insures your structure and buildings permanent fittings/fixtures from events like fire and weather damage, while contents cover could protect your belongings against theft, & accidental damage.
Contents cover protects your personal assets i.e. contents other than the building.
You can also insure the building along with the contents, as a combination provided you have an insurable interest.
Why should I buy home insurance?
• Home Owners: Protect both your house and personal property(Contents)
• Tenants of Rental Properties: Protect your personal property(Contents)
• Third parties: Our policy provides you with Premises liability cover which Protects you against liability for accidents that injure other people or damage their property.
Doesn’t my landlord’s policy cover my things?
Your landlord’s insurance covers the building structure but, doesn’t cover your Assets/personal belongings like your furniture, clothes and electronics. To protect your Assets, you are required to purchase Home Contents Insurance.
How much insurance do I need for my home?
This depends on the value of your home’s physical structure and the value of all of your Contents i.e personal property (e.g. furnishings, clothing, appliances, entertainment systems, etc.). You are required to take a thorough inventory of your possessions to ensure you have an accurate details & value before your declaration to Seib.
What impacts my home insurance premium?
Whilst calculating premium following factors are considered;
Your Declared Sum Insured
Your Claims History
Construction type of your building(Owned/Rented)
Safety features of your building
What is the period of the policy?
Your Policy is usually covered for 1 full year (365 days)
What is a deductible?
It is the first amount of the loss that has to be paid by the Policyholder.
How can I keep my property protected from fires?
We can recommend the following to help keep your home and family safe:
• Install smoke detectors on every floor and change batteries regularly.
• Keep a fire extinguisher on every floor.
• Don’t leave cooking unattended.
• Never pour water on a grease fire.
• Don’t plug too many appliances into one outlet.
• Frequently inspect and clean chimney flues and your furnace.
• If Travelling, close the water & gas mains and make sure that all lights are switched off
What is the procedure for recording any changes in the policy?
Inform the changes in writing and Seib would issue an amendment to the Policy.
I have lost the insurance policy. Can I get a duplicate one?
Yes, we can provide you with duplicate copy of your policy for a nominal Fee of QR 10
What should I do if the policy expired?
Seib will make best efforts to notify you in advance of the renewal date. You can contact us at +974 4402 68888 during operating hours between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm, Sunday to Thursday (excluding Public Holidays) or visit our offices located at Airport Road, Doha Qatar, to arrange for renewal terms.
Can I cancel my Home insurance policy? Will I get a refund of premium if I cancel my policy?
Yes, you can cancel the policy. However, refund of premium will be on short period rates. Please go through the Terms of Business Acceptance(TOBA).
What to do in case of a claim?
To make a claim, please download our claim form, fill it in with full particulars and full facts of the claim including its occurrence, detailed circumstances and extent of loss, and submit it with any supporting documents as soon as reasonably possible but not later than 15 days as per your policy terms & conditions.
